Consultancy Experience

As a member of the Bureau of Research, Testing and Consultation (BRTC) of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), engaged in carrying out different types of manufacturing of different products, parts and components etc. Also actively participated in providing consultation and advisory services related to industrial and production engineering projects since 2001. A brief summary of involvement in some important projects is given below.

  1. Worked as a member for training program on the Knit-Garments Production Management under the supervision of Southasia Enterprise Development Facility (SEDF) and financed by concern of International Finance Corporation (IFC) (2007)
  2. Worked as a team leader to study on Safer & Productive Equipment for Improving Working Conditions of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSE) in Old Dhaka under the supervision of KATALYST and ILO-IPEC (K-ILO for short, a strategic partnership between ILO-IPEC and KATALYST) to explore other ways of motivating MSE owners to improve working conditions namely by showing them the relation between working conditions improvement and better business performance (2006).
  3. Worked as a member for training program on Garments Production Management under the supervision of Southasia Enterprise Development Facility (SEDF) and financed by concern of International Finance Corporation (IFC) (2006).
  4. Worked as a team leader to study on the sector mapping-Light Engineering Sector on capacity building of SMEs in Light Engineering Sector (LES) under the supervision of South Asia Enterprise Development Facility (SEDF) of the World Bank Group (2006).
  5. Worked as a team leader to study on the technical know how for LES sector in Bangladesh under the supervision of Southasia Enterprise Development Facility (SEDF) and financed by concern of International Finance Corporation (IFC) (2005).

  19. Involved in mechanical test (tensile test, nick break test, face bend test, root bend test and impact test) of Welded Test Coupon of 8" DN X 330 psig interconnecting pipeline for 60 MW Barge Mounted plant of RPC2 at Mymensingh (1996).
  20. Involved in calibration of different Pressure gauges and Torque wrench for Cathweld Construction Co. Limited, Dhaka, Bangladesh (1996).


Personal Biography

Dr. Nikhil R. Dhar received B.Sc. Engg. and M.Sc. Engg. in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh in 1986 and 1987 respectively. He served as a Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Bangladesh Institute of Technology, Khulna, for about five years. After that he joined as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Technical Teachers’ Training College, Bangladesh. He received his MEd in Technical Education from The Victoria University of Manchester, UK in 1995. He received his Ph.D. in Manufacturing from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India in 2001. In March 2001 he joined Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, a premier Institute of National importance as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering and became Associate Professor and then Professor there in 2002 and 2005 respectively. Throughout his carrier, along with regular teaching, Dr. Dhar carried out research in various directions in the area of Advanced Manufacturing.  His major areas of interest are Environmentally Friendly Machining (Cryogenic Machining, Minimum Quantity Lubrication Machining and High-Pressure Coolant Jet Machining), Machining of Titanium Alloys with Hybrid Nano-Fluid, High Speed Machining and Grinding of Aerospace Metallic Materials, Modeling of Machining Responses, Robotics and Mechatronics, Additive Manufacturing, Fabrication and Processing of Composite Materials. He has so far guided 3 number of Ph.D. theses, 53 number of M.Sc. Engg. theses and 114 number of B.Sc. Engg. theses. He has published more than 227 technical papers in reputed journals and conference proceedings. Presently the number of citations of his published papers is more than 4458 with an h-index of 31 (as per Google Scholars). He is also acting as manuscript reviewer in many SCI journals. He completed a number of projects funded by Govt. of Bangladesh and some industries. Presently he is engaged in teaching Machine Tools and Machining, Manufacturing Processes, Modern Machining Processes, Robot and Computer Control Machines, Metal Forming and Sheet Metalworking, Composites Materials. He attended and presented technical papers in many national and international conferences.
