Personal Biography

Dr. Nikhil R. Dhar received B.Sc. Engg. and M.Sc. Engg. in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh in 1986 and 1987 respectively. He served as a Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Bangladesh Institute of Technology, Khulna, for about five years. After that he joined as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Technical Teachers’ Training College, Bangladesh. He received his MEd in Technical Education from The Victoria University of Manchester, UK in 1995. He received his Ph.D. in Manufacturing from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India in 2001. In March 2001 he joined Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, a premier Institute of National importance as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering and became Associate Professor and then Professor there in 2002 and 2005 respectively. Throughout his carrier, along with regular teaching, Dr. Dhar carried out research in various directions in the area of Advanced Manufacturing.  His major areas of interest are Environmentally Friendly Machining (Cryogenic Machining, Minimum Quantity Lubrication Machining and High-Pressure Coolant Jet Machining), Machining of Titanium Alloys with Hybrid Nano-Fluid, High Speed Machining and Grinding of Aerospace Metallic Materials, Modeling of Machining Responses, Robotics and Mechatronics, Additive Manufacturing, Fabrication and Processing of Composite Materials. He has so far guided 3 number of Ph.D. theses, 53 number of M.Sc. Engg. theses and 114 number of B.Sc. Engg. theses. He has published more than 227 technical papers in reputed journals and conference proceedings. Presently the number of citations of his published papers is more than 4458 with an h-index of 31 (as per Google Scholars). He is also acting as manuscript reviewer in many SCI journals. He completed a number of projects funded by Govt. of Bangladesh and some industries. Presently he is engaged in teaching Machine Tools and Machining, Manufacturing Processes, Modern Machining Processes, Robot and Computer Control Machines, Metal Forming and Sheet Metalworking, Composites Materials. He attended and presented technical papers in many national and international conferences.
